Slow charge is best, it deep charges them.

Yes indeed on the slow charge.
Ya may want to eventually look into NIMH batteries. These batteries do nOT require any type of discharge. But with most batteries, it is better to charge with little to no actual charge..........Man, How many times did i say Charge? Ha!

The manufacturer of those Universal Smart Chargers only recommend the 1.8a setting for the 2000mAh or larger Batteries.

For a decently fast charge, I suggest you charge the battery at 1000th the level of the mah. For example, a 2800mah I would charge at 2.8a.

If you want to charge it quickly, I suggest (mah/1000)*1.5. So 2800/1000= 2.8*1.5= 4.2a. Your battery will heat up quickly, but if you keep it under a fan it will be fine.

If you have all night, I always suggest mah/2. So 2800mah = 1.4a. That will help maintain your battery life. Not all chargers will have all these options for amperage and charge times, and that is why I suggest a Triton2 charger.

LiPos are a different story.

I can get about 3 hrs of play with a 2400mah NIMH Bat.
But i run my gun like a water hose.

I think I read somewhere the rule of thumb is one BB for every 1mAh of battery capacity...of course I'm sure motor type, spring strength all play into that.

Indeed the spring strength makes a difference. Single shot uses more battery juice than full auto as well. I heard the same thing about 1 per 1mah but i can easily run through a 5000 rd box mag on a single 2400mah charge pulling a 120 spring on full auto.
